Parents As Teachers is the overarching program philosophy of providing parents with child development knowledge and parenting support. The organizational vehicle for delivering that knowledge and support is Parents as Teachers National Center.

 

Their vision is that All children will learn, grow and develop to realize their full potential.

 

Their mission is to provide the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life.

 

Their program goals are:

• Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parenting practices
• Provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues
• Prevent child abuse and neglect
• Increase children's school readiness and school success

Parents As Teachers has a Heroes At Home Program which allows an in home meeting with a parent educator who does one-on-one age appropriate activities with your child. The educator also goes over what milestones your child has reached and which ones are on the horizon. The educator is also there to answer any concerns or questions you have about your child’s development.

 

I have been attending a play group held by Parents As Teachers for awhile now and my children love it and they love our parent educator, Miss. Emily. Emily also comes to our home once a month for an in home visit with "Heroes At Home". It is wonderful to have someone with her knowledge and experience give me advice and insure me that my children are developing perfectly and on "schedule". In the past she also brought a questionnaire for me to do on Brycen and Hunter to ensure there was no risk of either of them having a development problem or autism.

 

I highly recommend Parents As Teachers/ Heroes At Home. My children are comfortable with Miss. Emily and they enjoy the weekly play group and the monthly visit and I also look forward to it.
